I gave it my first try. I didn't have any wide gap hooks so I used thin foam for my first tie. I like the pattern and really like the idea on tying the legs. This pattern seems worth doing a little bit of experimenting with. As usual, it ain't pretty but I have no doubt it will catch some fish. I'll try it out later.

I tied this with 1mm Foamies brand foam I bought at Walmart. Most of the foam I have is Silly Winks brand I buy at either Michaels or Hobby Lobby. I usually use 2 mm foam on my top water flies as well.

I tried the fly out this evening. I was getting a ton of bites from bluegill and red ear in one of the ponds but only managed to catch 2 before I lost it. It was just too big for 6 to 7 inch perch. I tied on a medium sized Betts popper and had no problem with hook-ups.

I tied this one on a size 8 streamer hook.

I'll definitely use this technique for adding legs to my spider patterns. A shorter spider pattern with legs like this should be perfect.

Good to know about 1mm foam. I may have to brave the local Walmart wink
