http://fishingtackleretailer.com/bass-pro-shops-to-buy-cabelas/Tackle industry retail giant Bass Pro Shops is exploring an offer for one of its largest competitorsCabelas, Inc. According to a Nov. 5, report from Reuters, Bass Pro Shops is in the process of securing financing for a potential offer that would target Cabelas. Both parties declined Reuters requests for comment, though shares of Cabelas have risen by as much as 13-percent in light of the news. Both companies operate substantial, multi-million dollar direct sales and retail destination-store operations. Cabelas, a publicly owned company, reported $1.2 billion in revenue last year: $810.6 million of that came from retail stores; $349.9 million came from direct sales. Cabelas operates 77 brick-and-mortar stores in the United States. Bass Pro Shops is estimated by Forbes to have brought in over $4 billion in revenue last year. It ranks as one of the 100 largest privately owned companies in the country. The Springfield, MO-based giant employs some 20,000 people in 94 retail stores spread across the United States.

I just hope bass pro will bring back several brands that they have axed due to political jargon!! I wont go to bass pro anymore cause i like brands they dont carry due to ole Johnny morris geting broken hearted when some one leaves his company to another brand that is not even cabelas like Lews! Bass Pro Shops Less product for Higher Prices!!

Makes sense, since Tracker Marine bought Ranger/Triton/Stratos. I was assuming BPS would pull those boats out of Cabela's, leaving Cabela's boatless.

Oh WOW now that could/would change up things a Lot... pretty much a monopoly of the "brick and mortar" fishing retail stores and a good chunk of the online sales as well.

I buy very little at BPS or Cabelas...them and Gander Mnt are overpriced. Academy, Tacklewarehouse, and Amazon have everything I need. But I do enjoy browsing through their stores.

I just wish I owned some Cabela's stock when the 13% stock price increase occurred!

I have no use for either anymore. With Tacklewarehouse and Anglers Pro Shop having more and cheaper tackle, I don't have much reason to go in them anymore outside of having my boat serviced.

This is not good. I like the Cabelas credit card and their points system that does not expire. I cancelled my Bass Pro Card a long time ago. I hate their expiring points and mailed certificates. Bass Pro carries a lot of name brand gear until they figure out what sells best and then sell their own knock off version. It is most noticeable in the Columbia shirt and shoe lineup being replaced by the BPS Worldwide brand.
I foresee the archery section of Cabelas losing floor space to golf clubs.
