That's bad news for us if it really happens. BPS AND Cabellas are already overpriced and understocked. This'll just make it worse.

this will be bad for us, less competition = lower quality and higher prices.

For the past 7 years I have worked for PRADCO checking inventory and displays at Bass Pro. Many of their prices are above suggested retail. They mark up a given % from cost even if it makes them higher than anyone else. BTM

I buy very little at BPS or Cabelas...them and Gander Mnt are overpriced. Academy, Tacklewarehouse, and Amazon have everything I need. But I do enjoy browsing through their stores. +1 A bag of Roboworms is 57% higher at BPS versus TW. A Glock 19 at BPS is 20% higher than my local Mom & Pop gun shop. If BPS swallows Cabela's it won't be good for competition. Lets hope Johnny doesn't buy TW.

Sure seems like the whole industry will be owned by a few individuals sometime in the near future.

I'll agree that a lot of pricing at the two competitors is far from attracting the cost-conscious outdoorsman. But, my additional view is as follows:
1. I buy a lot more than lures, so I need more than Tackle Warehouse. 2. Cabela's branded clothing is quite often of higher quality than BPS. 3. Cabela's sales & special offers are typically better than BPS, but BPS offers more stuff specific for anglers. 4. Cabela's Bargain cave is a fantastic place to shop (online in particular); BPS has nothing like it, nor does BPS have end-of-season clearances.
I deal with the over-priced situation by shopping the Bargain Cave intelligently, especially when seasons are changing.

I'll just keep going to APT. It's been awhile since I spent any significant amount in either of those stores. The only thing I like at Cabela's is the bargain cave, and nothing I really like at BPS.

If it happens, I would imagine they'll close some store locations.
Like others have mentioned, the cabelas bargain cave is the best thing going.

I just hope bass pro will bring back several brands that they have axed due to political jargon!! I wont go to bass pro anymore cause i like brands they dont carry due to ole Johnny morris geting broken hearted when some one leaves his company to another brand that is not even cabelas like Lews! Bass Pro Shops Less product for Higher Prices!! Agreed!

They don't even carry Falcon rods anymore. The selection of rods at the Garland store is a complete joke and has been for a long time.
