Throw it anytime you around bait. I like the flash mob jr with Picasso light jig heads and little dipper swimbaits go good on that setup. I use 15 lb seaguar with 3 foot braid leader so when it rolls over it does not nick your line.
About now to about March when the fish start moving back shallow. It's best when there is more than a few feet of visibility but I have caught some in water with about 1 foot of visibility.
I use a 20 lb fluoro because I can cast it better than braid (just a me thing). If they don't mind the metal wire between the head and your hooks, they certainly won't mind the braid if you can cast braid better than fluoro.
I seen a guy use one as a search bait. Once he found them he would slow down and try to see if there were any bigger fish. Sometimes the rig produced the bigger fish. It didn't matter whether it was deep shallow or even near cover. I also agree with the use of mono. I view it like big swimbaits. Don't want to see it keep traveling after your spool has stopped. I am one that believes fish can see braid(true or not)and cost you bites and flouro knots will fail on big baits.
