It all depends on the trending temps. If I have say a 49 degree surface temp, you may just think, cold water, slow it way down. It's relative, though. If the water temp was 40 two days ago and there have been a couple of warm days, they may be chompin shallow in that 49 deg water today. On the other hand, if the water was 58 two days back, then 49 may be tough and dropping a jig on thier head may be the best choice.
During stable cold water conditions, different lakes with varying clarity and differing types of cover can also play very differently.

Jerk bait in the shallows (12ft and less) Jig, hair jig, hammered spoons, maybe a drop shot if I get desperate. Also planing to throw a Shaky Head this year! I m pretty new to the shaky head so we will see how that goes
