Hello,

I'm new to the forum, having just been relocated to TX. Glad I found your forum, and look forward to someday meeting some like-minded locals.

My son and I like to go out together and would like to do some crappie fishing on Lake Lewisville. We have a waterfront lot on Hardwicke Lane in Little Elm, where I plan to build a house. Unfortunately, the water is shallow by our lot. We've done ok with bass, but haven't had any luck with the crappie.

Is there anywhere on Lake Lewisville where we could hope to catch some crappie from shore this time of year? Also, what size minnows are you using this time of year?

Thank you,

Wes

There is a fishing barge you could try on Lewisville. I've been using 3" long minnows but I fished off the boat. By the way welcome to the forum!

You will like that shallow water this spring...

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

I apologize for the slow response. I've been having trouble getting back in to post. I can log-in, but as soon as I click on the forum, it logs me out...

I appreciate the warm welcome and the advice. My son and I went to the barge on Lake Lewisville for a few hours this afternoon. I'd never seen anything like it, it was pretty neat. We used minnows and a slip bobber about 2' off the bottom. My son got a white bass and I caught a 9" crappie. I didn't have any luck with the jigs I tried.

A lot of people were straight-lining, but I'm not sure how the rigged their baits. Does anyone have some advice for fishing off the barge?

There is a park near the end of Garza Lane near your home. From there you can walk to the cut in the old dam. There is some good fishing there.

Here's what I recommend:

Ernest Patty is teaching Crappie Catching on Lake Lewisville. He's the guru and it would be money very well spent.

jigging el, I saw the people fishing in the cracks between the buildings and the dock. They were tight lining it, but I'm not sure how far down they were fishing.

Don, I'll have to look for the damn. Thanks for the suggestion.

PKfishin, I'd like to book a day with Ernest Paty for my son and I. My son just started a new job, and once he gets a schedule, I'll contact Mr. Paty and see if he can get us in his schedule.

Don the Angler is right. There has always been good fishing around the cut in the old dam. Riprap always holds fish of one kind or another. smile
