Have not been out in a week or so and first time since lake came back up. Fished from 2:00-5:30PM and right off the bait I realized the fish that had been stacked on docks were not eating. Had 1 bite flipping shallow docks. With the overcast sky I ditched fishing slow and starting covering water. Started running shallow cover about midway back in creeks. Could not get a spinnerbait or swimjig bite at all. No luck on a squarebill crankbait either. Did get 2 frog bites along the edges of shallow grass but they were peanuts.

Saw some flooded sagebrush and buck brush up on points near Caney since the water came back up. Super shallow stuff about 1-2' deep. Grabbed a Megabass Giant Dog X in white python and right off the bat I got bit. Started getting bites regularly with it by throwing up in the lanes between the bushes. I mean REAL shallow. Also threw another new topwater and it got some bites too.
Kept seeing fish busting in the thick of it. They would not eat a Texas rig craw flipped up in the middle of the bushes so I rigged a 3" Megabass Spark Shad on a superline hook and a 1/8oz weight and started swimming it through it all. Had some bites doing that as well. I was fishing the bushes on top of a small hump in same area when a school of 3lbers blew through playing volleyball with shad. They were like rockets in that skinny water and literally knocking the shad up out of the water back in the bushes. I did get a couple of those as well but as soon as it started they were gone.

Fun afternoon. Ended up with 12-15 fish most smaller fish but a handful of slots up to 3lbs or so. Had a handful of fish I missed as well. Gonna hit it again in the AM. Weather is perfect other than lack of wind.

Good report buddy. I have been catching them so shallow since August they have TICK'S on them. LOL

Still shallow just a couple of days ago for me. I have had some really nice one's up to 7 lbs in 1-2 ft.

LOT's of small fish in the 1-3 lb range, but then you bust a good slot in the same spot. It has been fun fishing this fall for sure.

I was joking with some friends the other day and was saying I think for every 10-15 dinks you catch you get a slot fish... roflmao...lots of little ones but some of them think tehy are bigger. You are right for sure in that you think its gonna be another small fish then suddenly you got a decent one on. cheers

Same report for me today Mark. The shallow bite was way off. I caught some peanuts shallow when I saw shad flicker. Couldn't get a TX rig bite really at all today, they would play with it but never swallow. I had one hit a Trig while reeling it in. Paused and set the hook and a slot fish was following it. I found a decent bite out in 12-15ft this evening. The key was graphing bait. They hit a 6xd and deep little N for me.

I am out here through Wednesday just enjoying the nice weather. If you see me out and about come cut me off and say hello!

Will do. Gonna hit it again in the AM. If it gets slow I am gonna go hit Holbrook or Quitman maybe.

Today was just as fun. they bit all day long. Seems the key for me today was water willows. Just started running flooded willows along main lake points and just inside cuts and such. There was a much better flipping bite today but the star today was a new bait I gave a try to. Its a hybrid buzzbait/swimbait from Megabass called the Renegade. Pretty cool little bait. First cast resulted in a pretty big slowup and a decent under. Got bit on it most of the day and actually lost what looked to be a beast of a fish along the edges of some gator grass near some willows. I hit a stump and lost my balance as I was fighting it and almost fell in. That gave the fish a tad too much slack I guess as she jumped and threw the bait. It all happened so fast I could not see if it was hooked good or what.
Had a couple of frog bites again but they were dinks. Also had a few on the Reaction In novations Trixie Shark. Had plenty of bites to the point I stopped counting. Most came flipping a Texas rigged craw in green pumpkin or on the Renegade. Could not get a conventional buzzbait bite and like yesterday no luck on spinnerbaits and squarebills. All fish came in 3' or less mid lake.
The biggest tip I can give is to keep moving if you go long without a bite. Too many fish up shallow to stay in an area with no action.

I work every 3rd day..... cheers

I am just making up for lost time. Had a busy spring and summer. Heck I missed a whole week on the water last week due to work.... bolt

Best part is now the lake is getting emptier and emptier. The jig bite will fire up big time in a week or two and I love being out there when its quiet and the big fish are eating the jig.
