I have a DX745 but I want a shorter rod for pitching to docks. Using mainly 1/4 to 3/8 jig's plus trailer. Since we have some Dobyns users on here, would the 704 or 705 be better for this application?

The 704 works well for the lighter jigs you're talking about, 1/4 and 3/8. Plus you could also use it for T-rig. I did just recently purchase a 705 though, as the 704 is underpowered for 1/2 oz jigs with bulkier trailers.

704 is best rod i've ever used hands down for skipping jigs up to 1/2 oz under docks.

4 power for light wire hooks, 5 power for heavy gauge hooks. I like the 5 for flipping and the 4 for thinner swim jigs

The 704 handles 1/2 oz jigs great for this application. My favorite for close pitching.

Agree with the others that the 704 is a better option for what you're talking about.

For 1/4-3/8 I would choose the 704 also. It would have a better tip action than the 705 for the lighter jigs. I have a couple of the 745's and they are a great rod for open water jig fishing. I have a 744 that I use for Tx. rigged plastics and a 703 for tx. rigged baby brush hogs and small finess worms or a shaky head.
