Went to Ray Roberts yesterday, 10/31/15 at 7am. It was foggy and misty at the lake. We were the only boat at the ramp. My Humminbird 1198c the screen locked up. It wouldn't scroll or do anything. Software is up to date. Not sure what's wrong with it. I had to relied on my humminbird 596c with no side scan just down scan. I knew it would be a challenge. This unit does not have a gps so I had to use my handheld gps to get to my usual spots. It was very slow the first 2 hours with no fish in the ice chest. The big rain made the lake stain. Hit several spots with no bites. Later we picked up 2 to 5 crappies from each spots. Then there were sandies feeding with hundreds of birds diving. We were the only boat and it was a blast. Lots of small sandies with magnum sandies mixed in. Overall we caught 16 crappies, 18 sandies, 1 cat, and 1 drum. Crappies were caught with minnows and sandies were caught with slabs casting out and reeled it in or vertical jigging. Slow start but a decent day.

Gotta eat them drum. Silver bass as we like to call em. Surprisingly good eating. I've been catching some monsters while casting rattle traps for bass or drop shotting minnows around timber for crappies.

@fe1...I cleaned the drum and sandies. Gave them to my mother-in-law. Gave all the crappies to my parents. Drum meat is kind of tough for me. Going back to Ray Roberts this Friday and the wind is predicted to be 5 to 10 mph. I hope that holds. It should be good out there.
