I got a 101 foot control 36 volt that has been a good one for me . I am tough on trolling motors and have had no problems. I think mine is four years old

And don't try calling Minn Kota for any help or suggestions. Worst customer service out there. By far. I have a story I'll post here pretty soon...

I use my MK just about 250-280 days a year and have very little problems. In most cases it is something I hit but there are things can we can do as fisherman to have them last longer with no problem.

Cables generally speaking. I will say this sometimes the guys doing the repair can not be doing you a service. I remember in years past having a few things done and I had to go back in the head myself to straighten the foot pad the way it comes from the factory.

I pointed it out to the guy that worked on it and his reply was that is the way it comes from the factory. I said nope it will not turn all the way from the foot.

It should go 360 using the foot forward and backwards. So with that being said I understand your frustration. I have ran all kinds of TM in my business and a clear choice for me is MK. I wish you luck and I hope they get your problems fixed.

I think from my opinion there is not a better choice than a MK.

I think MK is the only way to go. I also had one break at the very top of the shaft where it meets the gears. I called MK on Monday and had a new one at the boat dealership on Wednesday, I did have to ship the broken one back, they paid. Then to my surprise, they sent it back fixed. I called MK and they said to keep as a spare, no charge. Can't get much better than that. smile

MK is #1 IMO.
2008 Maxuum 101, replaced the armator 4 years ago. I run it 100+ day's a yr, it's still rock'n on.

Marc is dead on with the service tech - if the technician is bad chances are you'll continue to have nothing but problems.

I loved the techs that used to be set up right outside Lake Fork Marina. I bent a shaft (it ain't easy but it CAN happen) and they fixed it on the boat, in the parking lot - in about 15 minutes i was back on the water with a brand new shaft covered 100% under the warranty. that was a great experience. Going on 8 years with the same TM, that was the only problem (knock on wood) with this unit.

previous unit, i used a local tech (he has since retired) to replace the armature. Put it back on the boat and he had reversed the steering cables. i was quite steamed to say the least.

I fish about 52 weekends a year a lot of time on the water have had all brands of motors by far minn Kota has been the worst for me .have hit stumps before and broken my share of shafts and lower unit on my trolling motors but as far as electrical issues and brackets they are the worst .maybe I'm just to sensitive when my 54k boat sits in drive way covered up for up to four weeks in a row .things that make you go hmmmm!

Been using a MK Fortrex 101 hard for the last 3 years. Not one problem of any kind.

I will never buy another minn kota, I bought mine new with the boat, but because it was built a year earlier, and I owned my boat for a year before the trolling motor broke down (three times now) they said it was out of warranty and would not cover repairs.... customer service sucks...........
