I have a 13-ft slayer propel and I have transported it both car-top or used a bed expender on my Honda Pilot but don't really like either way.
I am thinking about getting a utility trailer from Lowe's or Home Depot thinking that I can use it to carry my kayak and haul household junk, 2 birds with 1 stone. However, since HOA does not allow me to leave the trailer on the driveway I would have to store it inside of the garage and space is always a concern. My question is that would a 4x6 trialer be enough or I have to go with with 5x8 trailer?

I use a 4X8 trailer and fabricated bolt-on brackets to hold 8' cradles 3' above the deck. You could do the same with the smaller trailer. If you're any where near New Caney I'll be glad to help you with it. Get some 1" square tubing and some 2" strap. I can do all of the cutting and welding for you.

To save space, look into adding a foldable tongue, you can get them that bolt or weld on. If you go this route you can even add length to the tongue to improve how it pulls and backs, since it will fold out of the way you still save room.

I wish I live near by. I probably need to pay someone nearby to do the cut and welding for me. Do you have happen to have a picture of how you do your kayak?

I have never had any luck trying to post photographs. I could shoot a cellphone pic and text it to you in the next day or two if you'll PM me your number. I wanted a trailer to haul one or two kayaks with the Soloskiff I was hoping to get, so I set it up that way.

I built a Harbor Freight 4 x 8 trailer and it's been much better than car topping it. There are all kinds of mods than can be done to accommodate yaks. Sounds like you're going to need the foldable function to remain an option and the HF trailer has that. Beats decapitating your side view mirrors while car topping.

I have a 12'8" Ascend. I just completed a simple modification to my 5x8 utility trailer. I don't live in an area with an HOA but my garage is packed so I wanted to be able to store it upside down so rain and moisture don't get in the hull, but carry it right side up, so I can load it up before I head to the water. Bolts on or off if needed.
