Any advice on where to find how to use/read my lowrance HDS? I feel like I need to go to college to figure this thing out. I've watched YouTube videoes and that's helped a little but theirs is exactly like mine. Not sure if my settings need adjustment or what. By the way there's sooooo many settings that can be adjusted.

I am by no means an expert, but there are plenty on here that can help if you want to purchase those types of trips. They'll even use your boat! I can set mine up pretty good and read it. Making the right cast when I find what I am looking for is my big problem. I am self taught, but then again, I am a former programmer/analyst and have been around computers for >25 years. Where are you located? You might want to consider a draw format BASS CLUB, that way you might be able to be paired with someone that has skills using them/setting them up.
Without more information and pictures of what you are seeing, the help will be limited, however.

Might have to look into purchasing a trip. Think most of my issue is the settings. A lot options on adjusting. Not always sure what I'm looking at on side and down imaging. And I mark spots then come back and seems to be off the mark by quit a bit

This guy has a DVD series that is pretty helpful. https://www.sonargpsuniversity.comWhen returning to a spot, this may seem trivial, however, remember to have your map zoomed in as far as possible. Pay attention to where your gps receiver is mounted on your boat. Is it mounted at the console or rear of the boat? That will be the point from which your location is recorded. Another thing to remember is that depending on the speed you are traveling, you could be quite a bit farther away from the target than you would think. Especially if you're waiting til the object is completely on your screen before you set a way point. Everything on that screen left of the very far right side is history. One way I like to mark points is to use my trail to drive back over the object. I will watch the far right side of the screen, and when I get close to the center (or think I'm in the center) of the brush pile or rock pile I will mark my way point. It also helps to approach the target from the same direction as when you originally marked it when coming back to it at a later date. Typically I mark objects off my sonar and not the DI as well. Hope this helps somewhat.

I'm having the same problems. I searched on here and found several people recommending Slade Daughtery. I think he is out of the lake fork area. I'm going to take mine to him as soon as I get a chance. You have to widen your search to a year.

Me, too. My new Lowrance sits in the box because I don't have time to get another degree to figure it out.

I have HDS9 Gen2. Also the GPS seems to be way behind. When I turn to direction of a waypoint it seems like it takes forever to catch up. when in the middle of open lake that's a pain. It will show I'm going right at it and boom. It shows I'm going in wrong angle lol. I adjust or think I did but no I'm turning again. I got some bouyes to throw out next time I go to help me play around with it.

There should be a place in the settings to make your GPS refresh the signal or whatever every second, I bet that's your problem. Where r u located??

I highly recommend Slade Dougherty for an instructional trip. I learned more form him in a few hours than I had over a few years trying to figure it out myself not to mention he will "tune" your graphs for optimal performance.
With regard to your slow GPS performance, are using the graph's internal GPS? if so, get you a Point 1 external GPS...you will be amazed at the response time difference
