I posted about this trip a couple of weeks ago but got little response. Since we are closer, I thought I might give it another shot. My cousin and I are going on this trip. Neither of us have been on a tuna trip, but have done several offshore trips and this won't be our first marathon fishing ordeal. I wanted to see if anyone else on TFF is going and if so, it'd be nice to know others on the boat.

Since we are tuna virgins, I don't want to spend thousands of dollars getting geared up for something I have never done before. With that being said, I am happy to spend a few hundred to make the trip as successful for us as possible. I do have (2) Penn Senator 4/0 set ups spooled with 50lb Trilene Big Game. I hear that I am supposed to bring some 8-10 oz diamond or butterfly jigs as well. My brother in law also has a couple of 2 speed Shimano's that he said he would let me borrow. I am considering buying a heavy spinning set up for chunking as well. Do you guys think that's necessary or a good idea? Any other suggestions are welcomed.

I will be coming from Dallas, picking up my cousin in Houston and then we will be in Galveston on Friday night, the 4th. If any of you guys are going, speak up. Looking forward to it.

Thanks,
-Brian

a couple good entry level casting rod bargains here:

sounds like you got a pretty good handle on it, a casting setup is pretty important for night-time popping,
Spinners are easier than conventional for intro level tuna fishing.
I would also recommend some 6 or 7/o Mustad Demon circle hooks for chunking bait, & a good assortment
of offshore "eggs" 1-6oz (sinkers)
Add a couple Frenzy ballistic flyng fish lures & you should be good to go!

most of the tuna-heads here are gearing up for our annual TFF trip, coming up next friday.

tight lines!
