Conditions were brutal this morning. A front moved through the area about 6:53AM bringing a North wind at 20-25 mph with gusts to 35. The temperature was 56 degrees but it felt colder due to the wind.

Ahead of the front the bite was good, but afterward it was slow. I caught a dozen or so bluegill. None of them were over 7 inches. They were caught holding tight to the pier at about 4 feet depth in 10 feet of water. I was not able to find them anywhere else. They were definitely not in the shallower water. They were not near the bottom in the deeper water. The depth was critical to getting bites. The wind made detecting the light bites difficult. As the morning wore on and the wind got higher the bite got less and less. We gave up at 11:30AM.

Keeping ourselves and our gear on the pier was a challenge. I have never seen the wind blow the heavy chairs around before. At least the pier was not crowded.

A side note: Friday is the last stocking of catfish for the year in the community ponds. Conditions are forecast to be poor then too.

its easy to forget the brutality of a Northwest wind after the long summer. Very impressed with the skills to even catch a fish that is under atmospheric depression. Good Job Mr. Smith
