Fished Dunlap today from 8:30 til 1:00. For some reason the water was down about 8-10 inches ?? Water temp was 69 - 72 degrees. Fishing was way better than I expected. Started out fishing between the ramp at 35 and the Mariott. Pretty much non stop action, with some bigger fish than last week. Moved down to around the second Island and fished there for about 2 hours...nada. Went back to the upper river and the clearer water and picked up where I left off earlier. Probably caught around 50 total, and kept 9 for the kettle. Fished worms Carolina rig off a swivel with the weight above the swivel. My theory as to why we aren't catching as many, and as big Red Ear this fall, is that the spring flooding greatly diminished the snail population, and they just haven't come back strong, like they were last year ? any thoughts...

Those are some pretty fish. The fish I catch in east texas seem to be darker than those y'all post from north and central texas. Maybe out water is not as clear over here. Anyway, nice catch.
later...don

Nice fish Vogey and a super report. I agree with on the lack of snails after the floods. I also think that the colder water temperatures during June and July due the water being let out of Canyon Lake played a part in the sunfish patterns making bigger sunfish harder to find. Side Note: Still pulling in some nice size fish but like you said not like it was the past couple of years.

Nice haul. Looks like it will be awhile before Dunlap clears up. Got a feeling it's going to be a very long wet winter.
