It's craziness, there's a guy on YouTube (lake fork guy) that takes a banana on an offshore boat.... Eats the banana then ties it to his line and catches a large grouper..... Kinda puts that myth to bed.

This summer, I gave this a test. A good friend of mine who won a college FLW tourney in OK told me a story about his winning day. The volunteer boater for the tournament they won decided to bring a few bananas on the boat and said something to the effect, "I hope you boys aren't superstitious." So I took a few out for the Lake Fork Open HS tournament this July. Kids caught a 9.21 over less than an hour after I'd finished my bananas and moved from 46th place on day one to 2nd overall. It is the biggest bass in the history of the tournament. I was going to keep this as one of my biggest secrets, but as they say, "The cat is out of the bag."

In case you're wondering which brand... I think I picked them up from Wal-Mart. roflmao

Fishing the flats at Rockport. My brother and friend in one boat and limit out on reds and trout. Me and another friend in the other boat catch NO fish using the same flukes fishing 50 yards from the other boat. As we are heading in for the evening, my friend reached into his bag of treats and pulled out a banana. I almost threw him out of the boat.

If at first you don't succeed...so much for skydiving.

My luck is equally bad with and without bananas.

I was fishing with my son down At Falcon with guide Billy Tompkins. We hadn't caught any fish and while moving to the next spot I pull out a banana to eat. He just about threw me out of the boat & then tells me the superstition. So I eat the banana, throw the peel out into Mexico (bio-degradable & natural)and proceed to catch 4 fish that go almost 7 pounds apiece.
now; was it because I got rid of the banana, because I thought once you brought it on the boat the fishing "day" was shot, was it because we changed spots, was it because the banana thing is just hogwash. to this day I do not take a banana on the boat with me, but I do eat 2 of them every morning I am going fishing.

A story about the myth I was told was, Way back in the wooden ship days, when they would transport Bananas to England and what not they kept having mysterious deaths aboard the ships. Turns out there is a very deadly spider that nests in the banana trees and ship hands would get bit and die. Of course they didn't know that so they just thought bananas were bad luck.

Not sure if that is the reason for the myth, but it sounds plausible

Don't even think about getting a banana near Weekender's boat. For that matter, he didn't even like it when a few of us were sharing a trailer for the Fishers of Men Divisional on Toledo Bend last year and a couple of us brought bananas into the mobile home. Better for us to cramp up than to risk the curse of the banana...

I was sailing out at grapevine with my grandfather before he passed away. Just before we went out, while on the boat, he ate a banana. Lets just say, he's sailed across the ocean to Greece and other places before, and this was his worst trip yet. The winds kicked up to 40mph The sail and jib ripped, and then worst of all we ran out of gas. Had to be towed in by the fire dept. and slept at twincoves marina on the boat

I'm almost the most superstitious person ever but I don't understand why bananas would be bad luck... Someone please explain!

Not sure what it does relating to catching fish but the last time someone had one in my boat the net flew out in a tournament and all sorts of chit broke that day, NO MORE!
