Hey All, Where/How, does someone get started into building their own baits? I suppose I could Google it, but I figure I'd ask the pros!

I'm no pro but to get started you can watch some videos on you tube. Dakota lakes tackle has.some very nice videos as well as several others. If I can ever get caught up I would like to do some videos I have just been to far behind to spend the extra time to record and edit.
You will need a brush best bang for the buck would be the iwata neo from hobby lobby. Use the 40% coupon puts it around 50 bucks. You will need paint you can buy createx, americana, folk art from hobby lobby, or apple barrel from walmart. A cleaning pot is a big plus for cleaning out the airbrush, you will need mixing cups, mixing sticks, reducer/water, and baits.
Bait suppliers that I use are in no particular order dingerbaits, predatorbass.com, getbitcustombaits, Dakota lakes tackle, and unpaintedlures.com.
You will need hooks and rings I purchase mine in bulk from captainhooksdiscoutwarehouse.com
This should give you a little info to think about and if you have any other questions feel free to ask. There are several others on this forum that will help you out as much as they can.

Hey All, Where/How, does someone get started into building their own baits? I suppose I could Google it, but I figure I'd ask the pros! Warning!!! painting lures is addictive . If you decide to try your hand at painting lures I have a Master G51 airbrush with spare parts (needles, hoses, tips. etc.) that I'd let go of for small $'s. It works great...not junk. Would consider sharing a few paint patterns for beginners, too. Good luck.

start out simple with basic patterns and techniques. boisarc has suggested practicing and trying out new ideas on a piece of pvc pipe...excellent idea. precut 2" x 24" piece at home depot or lowes. before you spend a bunch of money on blanks, use some old lures to practice. give them a light sanding to remove the finish then base coat in opaque white. you'll be amazed at how you can revive an old beat up lure. plenty of "how to" stuff on you tube.
