Got out at ~4pm. Lots of birds, bait & schools of sand bass.

Pretty strong wind at ~10mph w/ gusts to ~15mph. Tough kayaking.

Landed this guy at ~5:45 and called it a day.

New personal best catfish (previous best was a ~18 lb channel catfish back in Iowa).

Based on a length of 36.5" I'm calling it a ~22lb fish.

Nice fish, looks like she's been eating well, she'll lay more than 50 thousands eggs next spring - summer... Btw, if you carried this slot catfish on your yak to shore you might have broken the slot rule of IMMEDIATELY releasing the fish, maybe just technically, just saying. cheers

Why do I go fishing? To catch a box of fish and/or some quality time under the sun. Thank Heaven I never fail fishing in Texas, catching box fish or plenty of sunburn.

"...if you carried this slot catfish on your yak to shore..."

I did not actually. I paddled the yak into shore with one hand while fighting the fish in the other. I then jumped out of the kayak and pushed it onto the beach with the help of a random family that was walking by. I then, very carefully, lifted the fish out of the water with both hands. I took it into shore while one of the witnesses held my rod and I removed the hook. I carefully took it over to water by way of my kayak for a picture for reference that was taken by one of the family members. The only scale I have has a very small peg and I was worried I would have injured the fish trying to weigh it.

Oh, and they filmed the whole thing from immediately after I got the hit to the release with a phone.

Anyway, I have kept exactly 0 catfish since I've been in the fine state of Texas and certainly had no desire to eat this mammoth thing. From experience with a few too big ~7lb channels I'm not sure I would have wanted to eat this thing.

I went out today as well.

Very light wind and constantly switching directions. Lots of bait and jumping sand bass from 4p on. Launched near the barge. Fished whole dead bluegills and bluegill fillets.

Landed two fish in the 10 lb class. Missed a few really nice hits.

Good day on the water. Way easier than Sunday.
