Want to try fishing at San Luis, want to catch reds, black drum, and anything that puts up a big fight. Anybody have any tips on how to fish that location. Any help is appreciated

It's a wade area, but it's treacherous, bars come and go, and you can be thigh deep to over your head in a step. Currents can be very swift, so prepare yourself.

I grew up fishing there, it's really good when you've got water moving and decent clarity.

Take a cast net for bait and get it past the second bar.

We caught over 80 bulls in 2 days at Searim.

What bait did you use if you don't mind me asking? And which side, the Galveston side or Freeport side?

We fish the Galveston side surf this time year and do really well, cant stress enough to be careful, people die there almost every year. Cast net you some mullet , all sizes will produce. Should be a lot of fairly good size croaker this time year that will work also

Reds don't care. We were using shad from the surf.

Closer to tyler now. I usually go to Sabine Pass to fish.

You ever chase the big gar down there?

Naw, ive been going down that direction last few years with my wife and kids. We have done a little surf fishing for reds and sharks. Went last week and stayed at the cabin at Sea Rim. Caught two bull reds at the cabin. I actually live in Brownsboro. I did catch a 4' gar at the cabin. Im no expert surf fisherman, just trying to make some contacts to join up with simetime if scheduling permits.
