I know I should know this and I probably read it somewhere, but I'm old and have CRS
But what are the advantages of micro guides vs regular guides on rods

Lighter weight and more accurate are suppose to be 2 differences

I use both and have not noticed any performance related differences. The only thing I have noticed is guides are less likely to be broken which is a plus. Negative is they will freeze up when cold. Not an issue unless you fish in cold weather. Could split the difference and get the guides that are somewhere in between. Me personally, I don't rate them better or worse versus conventional guides.

If you have old eyes the micro guides are hell to thread line through. Doesn't seem like I cast any longer or better with them.

I throw a weightless fluke on a microguided rod. It feel like I can cast it further and more accurately than on regular guides.

Pain in the butt if you ever want to use a leader on the rod. Forget it. Now making that mistake again. Medium guides for me.

Distance is my biggest difference... Also Line is in closer contact to the entire rod so I feel bites better IMO

If you have CRS, I'm sure you have CSS too. Better stick with the larger guides.

I heard that it helps when using braid by keeping the braid from tangling up around the rod tip. This is only a rumor......

Agree, I feel like it loads up somewhat better as well.

I use the BP Carbonlights and I have two micro and two regular. If I would have done it over again I would have gotten all regular. No real advantage that I have noticed. I threw a frog all day with power pro braid through the micro guides and my line seemed to be very wore out.

I have only one micro guide rod and really cannot tell much difference. And as said, if you want to use a leader the knot
has trouble getting thru the top guides. So I mostly fish with this rod with straight braid and no leader.

Casting accuracy may be a little better. But switching back and forth from micro to regular may also throw your
accuracy off a little. Won't be buying any more.
