Maybe it's just me but there's absolutely nothing more annoying than fishing with someone who is constantly on the phone or getting text messages every 5 or 10min. Fished with a buddy of mine a few days ago and it was really nerve racking. He was constantly on the phone talking and texting and it really ruined what should have been a great fishing trip. I'm the type of bass fisherman that tries to unplug from the system and all of the insanity of life in our modern day world. When I go to the lake I'm really trying to get away from the distractions of phones and radios/computers and really engage with nature on an intimate level. The sites, smells and sounds of nature is what helps me to zone in and get in in tune with the fish. Nothing destroys that like a cell phone constantly chirping or someone with a bluetooth headset carrying on a conversation ussualy mindless BS while you're trying to get in tune with mother nature. We caught fish and I actually didn't say anything to him because we were in his boat. What I really wanted to do was chuck his phone out into the main channel like a flat rock but all I did was grin and bear it. Am I wrong for feeling this way? Is it just me or has this or something similar happened to you? My buddy is actually a damn good fisherman if he could put his phone down long enough.

I'm the same way. I put my phone in the dry compartment in case I need it. My BT headset is only on in case my wife calls so I don't have to stop what I'm doing. She only calls in an extreme emergency or to check on me every once in a while if I'm by my self. I've seen more deer, eagles, bobcats and other cool things out on the water because I'm silent. I fish quietly and enjoy what's around me. I don't even have a radio in the boat because I just don't want the noise. Fishing is my ONE thing I can go and do to get completely away. Something about being on the water, being quiet and getting away can calm a soul.

Agree with everything you said. I take my phone with me but only to have a way to make a call if something goes wrong.
I'm amazed at how attached some people have become to their phones. But I'm older, may be an age thing.

Maybe you guys need to fish with partners who have as few friends as yourselves! Haha. Whatever! I put my phone in a water proof case and stuff it in a dry box. No radio, no phone, and NO TALKING. Just kidding on the last one. A little. I might get the phone out for a picture of a good fish. But it goes right back. I have a rule with my wife. I tell her what time I plan on being off the water. If I miss a deadline, I text her. When I'm off the water, I text her. Other than that, she doesn't disturb me. Hell, once she even paid out neighbor to come dig up a water spigot that was leaking and fix it, while I was fishing. She didn't want to bother me. Lol.
Eat. Sleep. Fish.

I have my own boat and sometimes my fishing buddy's will fish with me and vice versa.Just so happens that the other day we went in his boat. Its really not that big of a deal but thought that it at least warranted a conversation. Don't know where the butt hurt comment came from, but this is a fishing forum and we're discussing bass fishing I thought.HaulingBass02,I can definitely relate to the viewing of wildlife and fishing in stealth mode.Surprising what ones sees on the water when being quiet. There are definitely some here who don't have a clue as to what we're talking about.

I rack up a substantial bill running my George Jones Pandora station on my phone when im fishing. I should probably look into a portable radio.. The deer, fish and other critters dont seem to mind the classic country though! I do not text or call while fishing though, too much other stuff going on.
A bad day fishing is better than a good day at work.

I keep my phone in the storage locker when I am fishing also and I don't have or want a radio in the boat. Time on the lake is as much about disconnecting from the world so that I can recharge as it is about fishing. The communication that has happened between myself and my son or wife while in the boat is priceless and would be hindered if we were constantly on the phone.
For those that do stay "plugged in" to the world while fishing, try turning it off for one trip--you may be surprised at how enjoyable it is.

I hate music in the boat when I'm fishing because I KNOW the fish can hear it. And someone on the damn phone all the time is incredibly annoying. The whole point of fishing is to relax and get away from it all. Some people just don't get it.

You would not like fishing with me, there are usually several calls that I take, especially on week days, if you are self employed you will understand what I mean, as far as music, I don't mind a little country every now and then.

Often when the wife is with me she will bring the Bose Soundwave bluetooth speaker and we will listen to music while fishing. We don't blare it and the fish don't seem to mind. I enjoy those trips a lot. Nice and mellow. First time I was on Caddo she played some Lincoln Durham which really made the atmosphere even better.
To each his own. I only control my actions in a boat. I prefer to leave my phone alone unless I am sitting down to change spots or something. Might check it then but otherwise I stay off the phone.
