Just a little report about my first trip with side imaging. I got my new boat and installed a Helix 7 on the front and a 798 in the dash. So me and my crappie partner took it out to play and test. We got it set up pretty good, at least I could see stuff like stumps, bait fish balls and things in the creek beds. So we started trolling a creek bed with the side imaging set at 75' and I saw what appeared to be a rather large brush pile off to the right on what appeared to be a smaller creek. I put a waypoint on it and we came back to it later and we took 13 nice keepers off of it. Well now I am excited, so off we went to find some more brush piles and fish. We wound up with 18 keepers because we really did play more than we fished, so I am very happy with the new boat and the new electronics. banana

O yeah, the boat is a Triton 18c TX with a 115 merc. 4 stroke.

later...don

If I ain't fishing, I ain't happy.
But mostly I'm happy.
I love being retired, the check is in the mail.

Good job using the new technology to your advantage. If your smart enough to set it up and know what you're looking at then it can really work for you. I don't know about you but I catch myself looking at the screen way more than fishing sometimes. It amazes me what these things will show you.

If it ain't yours don't mess with it!

I really would like to get SI when I can afford it. It's too hard to find structure like that in shallow water with only DI. If you don't drive right over it, you'll never find it.

It is smart to take someone with you for the first couple of times. They can look out for stuff that you might run into. Your attention is totally on the SI, I almost ran my rig ashore a couple of times when I first started with the SI. Congrats and it is a fantastic tool.

thumb Good for you! I don't consider myself a great fisherman. However because of my former profession I became very good at using marine electronics. I have parlayed that into my fishing these days and people think I'm a fishing wizard, because I bring home some slabs. Trust me its the equipment! I hope to get to be a better fisherman, until then I have the troll motor and the HD sounders on both ends of the boat! wink

Randy

I'm in good shape for the shape I'm in!

It is always a good feeling when you can put your electronics to work, find structure and catch fish. Good job guy'

The Helix's are great units. Just wait to see what Humminbird is coming out in a month or two.

Slade, I'm going to get David to put one of those on my boat then come spend a day with you on Fork so you can show me how to actually use it.

I have 'dibs' on that 12. It's gonna look really sweet on the bow of my boat hooked up to my 360 thumb clap

A piece of advice for you as a new electronics owner.
Take a day or two and head to the lake WITHOUT your fishing stuff. You heard me right...no rods & reels.
It will force you to spend your time learning your electronics better. Take your manual too. You'll be amazed how much more you'll learn when you're not being temped to fish the whole time. My 2cents thumb
Congrats on the new equipment!
