A really good bass fisherman can do both (just my opinion).

It has been a real adventure catching Bass over all these years. In today's world, if you are going to beat the OLD BOYS you will have to work at it much harder than we did to find fish and be successful. You will need the latest technology to do so.

This is why I go way far South where it is like it was in the old days. Just not going to Pay-the-Piper any more to get half a dozen bites in one day when Mexico offers up a 100 per day.

Each person you work with holds some promise to your future success.

My father taught me how to bass fish when I was just a kid. We'd buy a couple dozen minnows and fish them under
a bobber. I can still remember the big bass I caught back then-had to be all of 15". We'd fish those minnows sitting on the bank and just take in the sights. It was a different time, for sure.

I'm 66 now still fishing every chance I get. The body is still in good shape-I think I'm good for another 20 yrs. smile

I knew a guy on Texoma who fished until his late 80's-finally had to give it up on doctors orders. When a doctor tells me that I think I'll ignore him.

Okay two things! First yes I do believe lakes are being heavily pressured. So it makes it more of a challenge than it was back in the good old days . Secondly about $3000 graphs. I am about two weeks away from purchasing my first graph with a GPS and lake master chip. Now for years it's just been Myself and a topo map. And you know what that is what builds the art of fishing!! And NO I and not the bank beater Type guy that cover the whole lake in a couple hours with a crank bait and call it "covering water" folks I don't make a cast unless I have a gut feeling that bass are in the area! If you pay choose enough attention to the birds, to activity on the top of the water. You will find the fish. You can actually smell bait fish in the back of a cove or even on a secondary or a grass line during fall.bof you want to fish off shore put on a foot ball find a point and get to dragging you will find a brush pile. I learned Common sense fishing! i think people with bigger wallets than there freakin brain will have a hard time learning common sense fishing. I love the Boat ramp talk with these guys with 30-50 thousand dollar rigs say "well they just weren't bitting today, fish where the fish are master your presentations and you will catch fish!

Same applies in deep water, but it's a little harder to find them, hence the electronics. I think stating that it is a little easier to "find" fish in shallow water vs. deep water is a more accurate statement.

90% of the bank beaters are lost in more than 10 feet of water. Really? Where did those numbers come from?

If you don't have electronics and you aren't trying to catch the fish that aren't holding on the banks, you are severely handicapping yourself. I agree with this, if you are tournament fishing. However, there is something to be said for fishing for enjoyment. I fish both ways but enjoy the shallow stuff more.

I always found bank fishing 100 per cent more challenging than boat fishing.

I know electronics makes it easier to go to different lakes and reduce the learning curve for said lake,,,,,,,but those old geezers sure knew how to find and catch fish. Have we lost the TRUE ART of BASS FISHING ???

The technology is interesting and adds a completely new twist to fishing. I probably don't need it, I just want it.
I have not caught a 10 lb bass yet and really don't think a graph will do it for me as I like fishing shallow much of the time.
Using the technology is a new fishing art form, imo.

Funny you should say that Danny. Back in the day, maybe 40 years ago, my brother and I did exactly that. My sister and brother in law bought a place with several ponds, one being small enough you could cast across it. First day with yellow and black H&H's, 28 bass. Kept em all. Next day, 8. Third day none, and none since. I think we literally caught every bass in that pond.

We do not need those fancy things, we want them.

Why would anyone stay with an old fat chick when they could have a young lean hottie in the kitchen making their sammiches?

If they had graphs back then, would they have used them or wanted them too?
As I remember when Fork fist opened, you could go most any where and catch fish. Graphs are just another tool that help. My problem is I just can't afford them.

My first boat had a Lowarance flasher, then I upgraded to a paper graph, a year or two later it was an LCR, now it's side and down imaging. I use them to find structural breaks NOT fish. If you know the structure and the season you will find fish. Most "kids" today have no clue what a seasonal pattern is or how to fish it.

As for pressure, fishing license sales have been falling for years.
At most lakes in the eighties and nineties you might have to look at two or three ramps just to find a parking spot at 5am. Today you can show up after sunrise and be the first boat out. Fork at night back then was about the same, this past summer on several night trips I would see maybe 5 boats at a ramp.

My family ran coon dogs in the creek bottom area of what is now Grapevine Lake. I was too young to run the woods at night and had to stay by the truck. They started the dam around 1948. When we fished the lake there was hardly anyone there. When they built the little parks with the benches around South side we used them to call fox at night because they had cleared out the brush where you could see. I played on the cement spillway the first time it ran over.
I guess that's the old days.

TAKE A PHOTO HOME NOT THE FISH. CATCH AND RELEASE
Set the hook first and ask questions later.
