I have been watching the 1199 lately and I see it on ebay for around $1200. This seems shockingly low and I know its legit because I see shut-up-and-fish selling them for about $1300. Now my question is, should I buy one of these units while they are very cheap or am I going to regret it when they are phased out and wish I would have just waited to get an ONIX 10 with my tax return?

Currently I have an 898 and I just think the screen is a little too small for my liking. I fish for pretty much everything (white bass, largemouth, crappie, catfish). My plan is to get a large screen nice unit and hire Slade to show me how to use it well.

I just purchased 2 1199s and love them, but I am committed to them for a while so no upgrade in the near future for me. I bought mine just before they announced the new Helix models for 2016. That might be what you want to compare with Onix as the Helix will be networkable and even a 12" screen will be available. Plus the Helix and onix will be supported with updates longer than the core units. looking at the msrp prices on the Helix units are pretty good compared to the 1199s and other core units.

Wow I had no idea what they were replacing the core units with. Looks like I'll just sit and wait then. I read somewhere on this forum that the helix was lower quality than the core series. Does anyone have any more information on that? It looks like the helix has a brighter screen to me than the core series but I can't tell if maybe the helix is just more glossy.

Helix doesnt come with an hd transducer like the core units

go with a 999ci combo unit its all you will need ive used both 1199 and 999

trust me i thought i new side imaging before i bought it, its still hard to understand just get what you can afford

Also have a marine shop install it, cost about 90$ but its 100% perfect for me that way you dont have to worry about it

The larger Helix SI models should come with the HDSI transducer just like the 900 and 1100 series.

The smaller Helix models come with the same transducer as the smaller 300, 500, 600, 700 series and 899.

No specs have been published to state either way.

Helix 12 CHIRP MEGA SI+ GPS G3N and G4N, 1198c SI, SOLIX 10 SI G3,
Helix 8 MEGA SI+ GPS G4N, SOLIX 12 SI and G3, MEGA 360, MEGA LIVE TL, RC-1

I am very cost conscious when buying non essentials like groceries and clothes, shampoo, etc, but when buying essentials like pickups, boats and fish finders, I want the latest and the best.
