I got called for jury duty today, but when I got to the courthouse they announced that the 2 trials scheduled for today had been cancelled and we all got released. Since it was only 9:30 I went home, picked up my fly rod and hit a large pond near my house.

I started out throwing a popper but didn't get any hits. After awhile I tied a woolly Bugger to the back of the popper and tried a popper dropper. My third cast I caught a medium sized tree on the woolly Bugger and broke it off. It wasn't too high but it was up a pretty steep bank and the grass was slick so I left it there.

I tied on a bream killer and moved down the bank. After about 20 minutes I caught this 11" bass.

I fished for about an hour more trying different pond locations and flies with no luck. I got bored and decided to head home. On the way back I passed by where I had lost the woolly bugger and could see fishing line hanging out of the tree. I decided to try and get it back and managed to stumble up the slope, grab the line, and bend the branch enough to get it back.

After all that trouble I figured I should give it a try and tied it on and cast it out. My third cast out I caught a green sunfish.

Two casts later I caught a bluegill.

Then about 2 minutes later I caught another small bass.

After that the bite quit there so I moved back down the bank and caught 2 more greenies one of which I caught when I dropped the fly in the water and was stripping line off my reel to prepare for my first cast.

On the way back to the truck I stopped one more time where I had caught the quick 3 and pulled in one more green to end my day.

No work, no jury duty, and some pulls on the line. Not a bad day.

That is what is called making the best out of what would have been "unproductive". The best choice was made nice report.

Thanks. I'm now sold on the woolly Bugger.

Would you happen to know why l only post a link to my images and not load them on the page? I checked the FAQ on how to post, but I'm doing something wrong.

Newbie fly fisherman and poster.
