Congratulations to Michael DeKoch of New Braunfels who caught this 10" Green Sunfish while fishing the Blanco River. Mike brought the fish over to the Parks&Wildlife Office located at the Blanco State Park for weighing and they refereed him over to my weigh station which is also with Parks&Wildlife. Mike kept the fish alive in a large Yettie ice chest filled with river water. Measurements and official weight were completed and the fish was released to fight again. The fish was 10" in length with a girth of 8.50". Weight of the fish was .75 Lbs. Paper work will be sent to Parks&Wildlife for a State Catch&Release Water Body Record,Blanco River Catch&Release record,Blanco River weight record,and a Big Fish Award. The fish was caught using a top water Torpedo Lure. Again Congratulations to Michael Dekoch on his pending records!

Side Note: A State Catch&Release Record for a Green Sunfish was submitted before Michael's fish. Michael's Green still got the Blanco River weight and catch&release records. He also got the Big Fish Award.

Way to go Micheal. One day I hope to join in the record books with some East Texas giants.

I'm jealous. I love catching big green sunfish. That is one beautiful specimen with some of the most unique coloring I've seen before.

wow, that's tough to imagine. Great picture, although I bet in real life that thing looked huge. Most greenies I catch are pretty small, and that's the size of a keeper crappie!

Thank you all! I was in shock at the size of the fish when landed him. I knew he was a record, or close to a record. My wife and I only had enough time to make a couple of cast before we had to pick up our daughters. I made 4 cast. The first was a pretty large 15" largemouth bass. The second & third cast yielded nothing. The forth cast was in the right spot. As soon as my lure hit the water the fish attacked. The Fight was on. I was using a quantum spinning reel and a rod that I made, from a blank, when I was an agricultural science teacher a few years back. I have been fishing the Blanco river for at least 20 years, and I don't think I will be changing anything anytime soon. Thanks again to everyone for your congratulatory praise, and thanks a bunch to Mr. Dewey.

Saw the updated records and a record catch&release Green Sunfish that was 10" was filed before Michael's fish making it the State record. Michael still got the Blanco River weight record and the Blanco River catch&release record. He also received a Big Fish Award. Again super fish and To the Texas Fishing Forum. Looking forward to seeing some post!
