Hey guys, Wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions or tips for Crappie fishing Lake Waco in October. I noticed that there are several condos that have been placed out by TP&W in the past but wanted to see if anyone has had any luck on this lake. This will be my first time to fish the lake and I think it is going to be raining as well, O well we sure need the rain. Any information would be helpful and greatly appreciated.
I will be more than happy to put up results and information on how things turned out as well.

I don't fish Waco as often as I would like but understand that starting around the first of October, the crappie fishing gets slow through the winter in the typical spots. You may want to try some deeper piles by the dam or the mouths of the creeks. As for the TPWD condos, they tend to hold the smaller fish. If you have decent electronics, It is pretty easy to find brush in that lake. Good luck to you.

Look for brush piles in 12-20 FOW. There's plenty of them out there. Also, the twin bridges on the South Bosque arm are good places to look. Shad colored baits have been working well for me. Good luck.

The lake is turning over the fish are scattered and not biting . Soon the schools of shad will start to group in small groups , then bigger groups with crappie ghosting along with them. Eventually some schools become huge and go hang out in deep water near the old dam, and some go up in the rivers. The ones at the old dam are hard to catch because they are with large schools of shad all winter and can feast at will, timing is everything. Up the rivers u have a better shot because the schools of shad move alot, but still, timing the bite is key.
When you start seeing alot of small fish on the piles, as it has been, the party is over for brushpiles. when u get green filmy slime on your boat and the water looks funky green, and the water in your faucets taste bad u know the lake is turning over.
As for the immediate future what I would do is start checking the mouths of the major river channels, with sonar looking for big schools of crappie staging to go chase shad schools. put out plenty rods, use minnows or natural colored jigs, get you a snickers and try to catch them bitin.. thats all folks..

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

I was on Waco Oct 14th, caught about 40 from 7:30 to 10am, kept 21, biggest was 1.53; top 7 went 9.26.
There was a tremendous amount of shad in 12-25 FOW on the lower half of the lake.

Waco is hit and miss right now, the few we are catching are either really good or really small. I haven't came across any big numbers only taking 10-15 fish per outing.

Welcome to the forum, lots of good folks here.

Thank you. Yes there seams to be a lot of very knowledgeable people willing to help each other. Great Forum.
Will be very interesting to see how it goes this weekend with rain, Never having been on this lake and to top it off have not been fishing for crappie in.......dang almost 20 years. I know I need to get out more. Gonna be a great time even if we don't catch a thing.
