I've been in love with bass fishing from a very young age and it is by far my favorite type of fishing and growing up on PK I have had plenty of opportunities to fish for other species, for example the striper bite is really good right now but I would rather go catch 2 blacks than 10 striper, maybe it's the challenge for me because there's so much to learn, not that there isn't for stripers but is it for you that makes you a bass fisherman?

The fight in blacks, spots, smallmouth is what gets me. Also very cool species, very aggressive, and have a dialed in attitude that we all can know during different seasons. I just love it.

I like trout fishing and bass fishing.

A trout is like a feather weight prize fighter; sleek, intelligent, fast and agile.

The bass is back woods bar brawler not above using dirty tricks who is always in a bad mood.

I like brawls. Bass for the win.

It's something you can never perfect, so you can always improve and learn more. I think that really keeps us coming back over the years.

Nothing is guaranteed. The challenge is what keeps me going I think. You can catch many fish species all day long on live/dead bait but searching out a bass with a hunk of metal/plastic/rubber and tricking it into getting hooked is so much more fun.

Bass have the right amount of behavioral variability to keep things interesting. Some days, they will lash out at anything that moves. Other days, you have to soak a tiny finesse bait in front of their mouths. At times, they will violently snatch the lure and other times, swim with it slowly. In general, they are at least always just aggressive enough to reward your efforts with a few battles, even on the slow days.

It's also a location thing; bass are in just about every body of water around here. You can find new honey holes driving back from work. If I lived close to Venice, LA I'd likely be fishing for bull reds every day until my arms couldn't take it anymore.

I think it's the fact they're always changing and the challenge of trying to figure out what they're doing is what makes it so fun. You never stop learning and there's always more to learn each time you're out on the water.

simply gives me the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors with the family. The kids are growing up and love to fish also, so I think I did something right.

The challenge of tricking them to bite, or the aggressive behavior has alot to do with it. It is also competition, the competition of you and getting the fish to bite something and then competing against other anglers.

Catching most other fish, Crappie, Catfish, Sand Bass, Stripers, etc... It seems like they are biting because they are hungry not because they are being territorial or aggressive.

Dang...that also describes my youngest son (22 going on 12) to a tee! Behavioral variability...and I thought he was just a wild child that took after his mother!!

Simply put...it's the "bait HIT" that stirs the passion.
