Has anyone fished the Frio near Leakey, say at Garner State Park or somewhere close? From what I've seen on the internet it looks to be a beautiful place and they stock rainbows in the winter. Wondering if it's worth the drive.

I have heard good things about the Frio from my associates who have fished it. (I think associates sounds much better than "hoodlum friends")
Just wonder what the flow levels are like? A call to the park ought to answer that question though.

That's the flow data. Seems to be running fairly well.

TPWD posts their trout stocking schedule in mid-November.

Garner was stocked last year, but not until December.

I've never been, but my wife has and says the river was fishable ~10 years ago. It's on my list of places to wade this winter, as it's not too terribly far from me.

Never fished for trout in that river, but I did fish clousers next to lily pads early last spring south of Garner. It's a beautiful stretch of water and extremely clear in some places. You have to be a ninja to succeed with the Guadalupe, and Spotted Bass to catch them. You won't regret fishing that water even if you get skunked...promise.

I've never fished at garner it's always too crowded. But I've fished most of the crossings from Leakey to concan. If you're thinking about going you better just get on down there, you won't regret it. It's one of my favorite rivers to fish the color of the water the huge trees and on some stretches a bass almost every cast.

I fished the Frio several times a few weeks ago. Once at Garner and the other two times at crossings just southeast of there. Did well all three times. I was using ultra light spinning gear. The water was crystal clear with good current. Bass,Bluegill, and Tilapia were all caught. Great scenery and a lot of peace and quite. thumb
