I am going to pick up some soft plastics today. Is Berkley or Zoom a better choice?

Yup and it clutters up the forum, the search feature is your friend George, as previously stated, more than once.

A lot of your questions are opinionated. Go with whatever you think works and catch some fish!

And I think one of the real intents of the TFF when it first started. To help people learn about fishing the great state of Texas.
I use both Berkley and Zoom plus every other soft plastic known to be made.
Keep on asking your questions.

YES, to both. They all have their moments when they outfish othr soft plastics. Depends on what is good at your particular lake, like Alan Henry fishes GREAT with Blue Fleck colored soft plastics, while in North and East Texas, hard to beat chartreuse pepper or watermelon/red flake. Hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

It's very hard to beat a 10" Berkley power worm. If I could only fish one bait forever that would be it I do believe.

All depends. For big worms I use berkley but for flukes I use zoom.
