These fall cool fronts mean a lot of things here in south central Texas. Cooler temps, drier air mass, wind directional changes, and sometimes extreme fishing activity. Well this morning I was treated to an added bonus…MAY FLY HATCH!!! Yes this fly feller stumbled across a bona fide fly hatch, and unlike the trout, the panfish could care less if you match the hatch as long as its small and buggy looking. Started off this morning with a #12 Renegade dry…started missing some Guadalupe’s and bigger Redbreasts switched over to a #10 Kibari wet/dry and finished the day. By my estimate I landed somewhere between 50 and 75 Redbreast/Hybrids dinks to 9.75” (I lost count after 24 and that was in the 1st hour). These fish were just everywhere in the water, shallow, deep, surface, middle, even on the bank when one would get excited lol. Now the downside! The last time I was on this lake post frontal (2011) same type of day, Myself and Fred “De-Rio” had no trouble finding some 11”-12.50” With Fred catching one that I think touched 13” (Redear) Not near that size today. But anyways I had a blast, no one out but me. GoPro camera battery used up not even half way through the morning...enjoy in HD. 9.75" hybrid 9.75" Redbreast

Solid post Kent. Looks like you were nailing em pretty good. Dunlap has been off this year mainly due to last May's flooding and all the water that had to be let out of Canyon Lake during June through Mid July, kept the water temperatures low. The big Redear have been hard to find but I have caught a few very nice ones this year but not has many as last year. As for the Hybrids. They are pretty good fighters! Been catching a lot of em! Again Awesome post!

Now that's my kind of day. Big Sunfish on the fly Every time I fished Dunlap the water was dirty and the fish were 10 feet deep. That gives me new hope. Especially if I have chance to catch a 12.5 inch redbreast

Loved the video and the post. I fish Mcqueeney and Placid a bunch and during the several hatches of May Flies that we have had this year, the sunfish bite was fantastic. Caught my bigger Bluegill during the hatches. Again great post.
