Yesterday I was fishing at Gonzales on the Guadalupe and at noon I decided to head back to the ramp at Lake Wood. Within a mile of the ramp I got behind another boat that had a man and a little girl that looked about 10 years old. The little girl had no life jacket on and was trying to drive the boat. She was standing on the seat attempting to drive while the man sucked on cigarette acting like he did not care.
There was a Boy scout troop from Schertz in several canoes on the river and the girl did not slow down when going around them, throwing a rather large wake behind her boat. One canoe almost tipped over and another was pushed up on the bank. I idled by them and the scoutmaster thanked me for not creating a wake.
At that point I was angry and really wanted to say something. By the time I got to the ramp the girl and man had tied up at the ramp blocking it. I waited for them and could not believe what I seen next. The man walked to his pick up truck and started handing the little girl bottles of vodka and he carried several coolers to the boat. That man knew I was watching him and I glared at him. Finally he moved his boat and I loaded up and parked to the side and strapped my boat and motor down. I knew it would be a bad situation if I said anything and it would have probably escalated into a shouting match or a fight.
They left the ramp throwing another large wake and I left Lake Wood madder than hell.

So it never crossed your mind to call a game warden or sheriffs office? Odd, couldn't have cared too much.

That's why I don't fish Lake Wood on weekends. During the week there may be one or two more FISHING boats on the lake.

I told the GBRA guy at the office. The reply I got was "ok". How much more I could have done I don't know. I thought about calling the sheriff but they were long gone and I never did see a number on the boat.
You never know about people today, I avoided the confrontation and told the river authority.

learn the name of the local game warden. In Tarrant Co. there are 5, and two of them, Clint and Cane, I have met. Cane said they rely on citizens to help them out and notify them of possible situations. They can't be everywhere all the time. Get the GW's name and contact info and put it in your phone. If nothing else, there may be a time when you are in trouble in the outdoors and need quick help.

One more reason to always carry a cellphone with picture taking. You make it sound like felonious child endangerment. The police/warden may not be able to do anything about it at the time but it could be just the tip they need to be aware of it at some future time and stop it before someone - most likely the little girl - gets hurt.

Fishing, a man knows a serenity of soul and peace of mind that he finds in doing nothing else, and it makes no difference whether or not he catches anything. The mind of a true fisherman is not on petty subjects.

That's good info on the GW name and number. There is a GW that lives on the Guadalupe a few miles northwest of Lake Wood. If you do call 911 on the water can they locate you?

Depends on which 911 picks up your call. You will need to identify yourself and tell them where you are. They will then connect you to the Gonzales Sheriff office. Tell them what is going on and they will have the game warden call you back.

Thanks ChuChu1,I put that info in my phone. I fish out there a lot and have been to Texana and Coletto Creek but still like the Guadalupe near Lake Wood. I put in at the ramp at Cost a few times, but its a little steep and not easy for me to load and unload as I fish by myself mostly.

I used to use Cost all the time, but since they have been working on 97, I use the GBRA ramp. It's actually closer and somewhat more secure.
