Have an issue with my Sea Star steering that has gotten increasingly worse the last couple of trips out. When I turn the wheel the steering ratchets. Meaning that it turns but has a catch in it where it turns then has a small dead space before it catches again. @5 degrees each time on the wheel turn. It is doing it each direction, although it originally just started with the left hand direction.
Low on fluid maybe?

getting low on fluid. look at the piston seals to see if there is a leak. That is the most common thing that happens and easy fix for a diy guy. You can pick up a kit to replace the seals and 1 qt of hydraulic oil. You will need an extra pair of hands to turn the steering wheel when you go to bleed the system. plenty of you tube video's on this.

Yeah that fluid is down for a reason. Probably getting time to do the seals. I ordered them online and did it myself. Its not that hard to do and your wheel will quit popping. By the way, those pops will get larger and you will lose steering eventually.

Just replaced the seals on mine. Took about 1 -1 1/2 hours. Could have done quicker but had a friend help and we BS'd along the way. Read the directions and it is easy. The bleeding was easy. I opened both valves the firs time. Save the oil and put it back in the bottle for a second time. The second time I did one bleed valve at a time. Took boat out the next day and worked like new.

Be careful about waiting...if that seal breaks, it could be a dangerous ride.
