Variety of ways, drag it or hop it. Both work well.

can start by fishing it exactly like a T-rig. Once you get comfortable with feeling the bites and fish, start playing with your retrieves

Rather than filling a page, I would suggest viewing some youtube vids on the subject and reading some of the very good on-line articles available. There is a plethora of great info available to get you in the know.
Hiring a good guide to give you some on the water lessons is a great way to speed up the learning curve. Richard McCarty and Mark Pack are two of the best jig fishermen around.

I tried jig fishing for years and hated it until I switched to braid. Found out I was getting alot of bites that I was not feeling. Now I love a jig. I also prefer Finesse jigs and like thie first guy said sometimes they like it hopped and other times crawled. Stick with basic colors. I only use 2 black/blue or watermelon red.

Fish it like a Texas rig and pay attention to the fish they will tell you how they want it fished. I use a 1/2 oz. heavy finesse jig in green pumpkin orange year round and have a lot success with it.

I love to throw mine right on top of any kind of cover and I'm usually fishing it closer to the boat than other baits. As soon as it's about to hit the water bring your rod tip down and peel the line out of your spool so the bait falls straight down to the bottom. Reel in the slack quickly and get your rod tip in position where you can feel the jig. This is when you'll often times get bit. If there's any resistance look for line movement or a subtle tug. Set the hook hard to drive the hook home. It's an exciting way to fish because there's so much going on and you will catch bigger fish on them. Sometimes I won't work it back to boat concentrating more on the where the cover is pitching to next to stumps, trees, pads, willows or whatever and you can cover a lot in a short time.
