Do the Gen 2 touch screens benefit from the Point 1 antenna? I had it on my previous boat, but I also only had Gen 1 graphs on that boat.

Guess so, a Friend has a HDS gen 2 7 touch and likes the Point 1. Says it puts him closer to the stump.

Using the site for a while...this is really great to share fishing ideas and success with others.

The Point 1 GPS antenna works well with Gen2. Much better on Gen2 vs Gen1.

Also find you an LSS2 structurescan module to add to your Gen2 Touch. It will enhance your side images.

So to all my fishing friends on TFF, spent almost 44 years in the military electronics business, which changes daily. Now that I'm retired, and gone back to fishing, I"ve found that marine electronics changes on what appears to be an hourly basis, somewhat like all commercial electronics hardware/software. That said, I recently purchased an prior generations, NOS = New Old Stock Lowrance HDS10 Gen2 with the LSS2 bundle package at a deeply discounted price. Yep, I'm both retired and frugal. All that said, I'm trying to understand if the system that I'm currently installing would benefit from this "Point 1 antenna"? Sounds as if this may improve GPS accuracy from X to Y, but not really understanding if there is any impact of on the resolution / accuracy of the side scan or down scan images?

OK folks, help me out here......

Point one helps with the accuracy of the GPS but has no effect on the rest of your sonar.
The Gen 2 sonar is very good as purchased and should serve you well.

That's what I figured. I already have the LSS2 SS module as well. Thanks for that responses.

Buz,

The Point 1 is not only a GPS receiver but also includes a compass/heading sensor. The Point 1 does give me a better GPS EPE but in my opinion it is the compass that makes it shine. It ensures that the map chart and boat icon direction are always oriented properly.

THANKS

THIS
But that being said, the improved GPS speed and accuracy of the Point 1 makes a huge difference getting ON a spot on e you've found it. My 2cents

I have the HDS 7 Gen 3 and am happy so far. Is the point 1 something that would benefit me or is the GPS in the Gen 3 models better than the Gen 1 and Gen 2 models and the point 1 not needed on a Gen 3?
