Over the last three months I've been fishing mostly Lake Worth and Grapevine.

At Worth I mostly flip jigs and plastics, and at Grapevine, I fish shallow. I have been catching fish at both lakes, but nothing of size. In fact, I haven't caught a fish over 2.5 lbs.

Where are the big ones?!

If your only flipping jigs and throwing plastics this time of year, I would say you should mix in crankbaits, spinnerbaits, swim jigs, chatter baits, and cover water!!! Follow the shad and you will find the more mature bass. Good luck!

Been throwing a white swim jig shad imitator, and a watermelon flake with chartreuse for bluegill imitation.

I'm thinking maybe I need to back off the banks and target the slightly deeper area with a crankbait or something.

That's just the way the vine is fishing right now! Don't know about worth but a lot of unders and small slots are EVERYWHERE! The big ones a very far and between and for me those are still out a little deeper!

Just don't set your expectations too high when fishing Lake Worth......if you're solely looking for big bass.

I think a lot of the area lakes had the best spawns they've had in several years plus on most lakes nobody could bother them due to the high water. Next year and the following are looking very promising I think!!!
Most lakes are full of small bass right now, so don't take it personally that you aren't catching hogs, most people aren't either...

I've been fishing Worth pretty much weekly since the lake was reopened, all shallow. Tough bite overall and not much size. Biggest I've caught have been in the 2 1/2 lb. range. Best baits have been a frog (early morning), plastic craw worm (Strike King Rage Tail T-rigged), and finesse worm (Missile Baits 4.4 Fuse on a shaky head). Bite should improve as water temperature cools. Plenty of good bass in Worth, just good days and tough days like most lakes.

In memory of my childhood friend Dan Sterling, who taught me at an early age how to catch bream with a hand-line, and who unknowingly hooked me on fishing for life.

I've caught a few good ones at Grapevine the last few weeks. Surprisingly shallow. They aren't everywhere though. Gotta work hard to find them, that's for sure. I've heard the frog bite at Worth has been pretty good. Not sure where out there, but I'd assume around flooded brush and cat-tails.

I would fish the bottom elevation change IE the structure/break line or ledge that leads the fish from deepest water in the area to where you are catching the fish. Are the fish you catch one here and one there or seem to catch a few or more in one small area then have to move to another area? Definitely would crank any ledges near those areas where it drops into deepest water. Most likely only going to get a reaction strike. Just me 2 cents

Most fish I've found are within the same stretch of bank or relative area.

I have a feeling they're close, just need to pinpoint them.
