Went on a scouting run on afternoon of the 14th in prep for a group I took out the morning of the 15th. I found 2 spots - Dam Drop-off and Key Ranch Drop-off - in 18 to 20 fow where I could catch a nice white every cast. I also caught a 27 inch buffalo (pic below) that trip. However, next morning they weren't there. The 4 of us struggled to catch 25 fish in 4 hours - not the best of days. The ones we did catch were at Key Ranch Drop-off in 12 to 15 fow and at Mid-lake Hump in 22 fow.

The 17th was in Austin for my youngest grandchild's 1st birthday party (pics below).

Back home early afternoon on the 18th, I went out to catch some sun on Long Ridge and caught 41: 19 big whites, 9 legal hybrids to 23 inches, 8 short hybrids 16-17 inches, 3 cats and 2 keeper yellows. Most were on the east end in 24 to 25 fow hugging the bottom. That stopped when large bait balls of shad moved in covering the whole east end of Long Ridge. So, I went searching west of the mid point of Long Ridge. There were no bait balls covering that area and I found some more whites down on the bottom in 20 fow. Fish on Oct 14 and 15 were caught on #2 and #4 Mepps, and on 18th they were all on #4.

I am concluding from these 3 outings that (1) structure fishing is better right now in the early afternoon and (2) stay away from areas where large bait balls are everywhere.

Great trip to Austin, and not bad on the lake!

I found a few up around the spillway humps, but not a lot.

What a blessing and good looking grand son you got, DC. Looking forward to see pic of him catching fish with grandpa in a few short years. Mepps style of course smile
