I do not see any advantage to use of Optima for deep cycle. This is because cost efficiency and energy capacity matter most to me.
Even though Optima batteries may give good service life, their cost is such that the "amortized cost per fishing trip" is not as good as some other excellent choices available.
The RC (Reserve Capacity) spec is what matters when you want to compare expected deep cycle run time of one battery model vs. another. The Optima deep cycle battery has an RC of 155. This isn't exactly tops in performance comparisons. There are many batteries with an RC of 180-210 available for less money. There are a few offerings even higher than 210, but the cost on those starts to climb.
I use the Marine Maxx 29DC from walmart as my TM battery. I get an RC of 210 at very reasonable pricing. That's not the only good choice, but the one I went with.
