Going down in a few weeks for a 4 day trip. Need some advise on where to stay. Just going to be me and my dad. Found a place called Powell Park. Any advise would be appreciated. Another thing is accessibility to good fishing. North end, south end ? Thanks guys !

Powell is a decent enough place if you don't need to go anywhere. Just seems to take forever to drive somewhere from there. As far as the lake, it's in a good spot to explore the whole bottom half of the lake. I've had a really nice place to rent on the west side of the lake for the past few years, but he had it for sale last time I was there a few weeks ago.

We stayed at the Last Resort for the BC event. Nothing fancy, but a nice place to stay near powell park.

Powell Park is clean. Stay away from Jackson Hill. It's not clean.

If you're looking for a cabin/house setup I would call Jeff Buchanan at Buchanan Realty. He has some nice places that will work good for you. Like someone said above, Powell Park is kinda in the boon docks. Not much access to eating except the little restaurant there at the store. It's good but not good enough for 4 straight days!

If you can do a motel, Lakeview on Hwy 147 is perfect. Very reasonable. Has a short order grill. Close to fuel in Zavalla (6 miles). Close to 3 different good restaurants in Broaddus (4-5 miles). Less than a mile from Cassels Boykin ramp. It has water access but the motel is about 100 yards from the water. There's also a good tackle store about a mile away back towards Zavalla. Personally have never been to the lake, however I am going on a trip down there on the 30th, and my guide recommended "Rayburn country motel" he says if you tell them you are coming for fishing they give an anglers discount.

I'd stay at Bryans place, The Last Resort.

Thanks, Billy

I have stayed at the Last Resort, will stay again. not fancy, but clean and reasonable.
The last time I stayed at Rayburn resort, everyone had no water for a couple days. I know things happen, but you would think they would stay and fix it, with a motel full of people. not 8 to five.

Might try this one. It is in Westwood and about 5 blocks from the Westwood boat ramp. About 5 miles from the Stump and Umphrey. Took the family last summer and while it's old the convience and the view is worth it

I have a 3 bed/1bath trailer in Rayburn Country. Five minutes from ramp/dam. Not lakefront. Fully furnished, grill, etc. $95 a night in offseason. Can send pics, etc. 903-452-4772
