Which one do you recommend? There are a lot of variations, and some of them seem practical; have to be able to transport them easily.

Thanks in advance.

I have never used or seen one in the "flesh". I would buy the lightest one I could find as it is real hard sometimes to pull the rake back to you in a rushing tide. Just look for a metal light rake (preferably treated for the saltwater with corrosion resistance) and try it out.

I don't think there are any for sale around SPI since the sand fleas here are smaller compared to the sand fleas in Florida. I searched and asked around a couple of years ago and no retailers carry them. Was planning to ask a friend to weld one for me.

Caught this guy last year , he was a little larger then a quarter and I was able to get a nice black drum with him.

Are there quarter sized ones all up and down the Texas cost? What little research I've done says they don't get as big here as Florida but I would be willing to build a rake and try it if they are actually here. Matagorda and or Galveston area?

Hmm really couldn't tell you , I didn't think it was unusual and I have only looked on South Padre . I've seen smaller ones but its not unusual to find quarter sized ones I used to dig them out with a bucket when I was a kid. I would think if they are that size here should be the same in Galveston and Matagorda.

I agree that you can't say the ones in Florida are bigger than the ones in Texas. That would mean the fish get bigger too. Doesn't make sense with a body of water that is connected.
The fleas are there you just have to dig. From what I have read, Florida has been doing it longer with the fleas so it may be that the fleas are easier to find on some beaches where they have found them over the years.
They do catch big fish. I would give it a try.
Let us know if you get one and how it works please!

You can use those meshed minnow traps that look like buckets to scoup them up. They work great.
