Headed to Caddo today and this cold front is hitting at the same time. Temp drop sounds like it will be pretty substantial (from a fishes perspective I guess) so I am guessing it is going to knock the florida strain largemouth around a bit. The white bass tend to run pretty well this time of year so I am going to focus on them and try to get my kids into a few. Just wondering what this board thinks about how fronts may affect the white bass.
Many thanks in advance for your thoughts.

These cold fronts have been pretty weak this year.

Well, a buddy and I got skunked today at Hubbard. Was 56 early this morning, water temp was 74. Our performance may not be representative of the whole. I saw a lot of fish and bait on sonar, but no takers.

It isn't the cold front per se but the constant changing direction of winds that cause fish to lock jaws sometimes. Jmho
Why do I go fishing? To catch a box of fish and/or some quality time under the sun. Thank Heaven I never fail fishing in Texas, catching box fish or plenty of sunburn.

We caught 22 on GV today but it was tough. Drifted a 200 yd stretch over and over. Catch a couple ever now and then. Had 16 or 17 keepers

Big swings in BP, especially the high, affect the bite. If the BP will stabilize high or low the fish adapt. Otherwise expect a lonely live well.

I think the pressure impacts shallow fish but not necessarily deep fish.

im a little confused how barometric pressure could affect anything submerged in water? since water cannot be compressed? I have read tons of stuff about pressure and biting fish, but Im skeptical

I was skeptical also, at first, but then I saw a video years ago, of some largemouth bass over several hours or days when the barometric pressure was rising and then falling. You can definitely see them moving and staging in deeper water as the pressure rose and then moving shallower as it fell. They have air bladders that can compress with the amount of pressure that they are subject to. I can tell a difference in where I need to find fish when the pressure changes abruptly. Cold fronts cool the surface temps down which helps fish feed more toward the surface in the warmer months, and makes them move deeper in the colder months to find a comfortable temp. The BP is also changing when cold fronts blow in. All of it affects the fish, just as it does people.

The swim bladder of most fish are affected by "Boyles" law. The greater the BP pressure the smaller the swim bladder. therefore sinking or driving the fish down. He/she loses sense of balance and direction and wont eat till the bladder adjusts or the pressure falls.

im a little confused how barometric pressure could affect anything submerged in water? since water cannot be compressed? I have read tons of stuff about pressure and biting fish, but Im skeptical +1, unlike air water cannot be compressed. Water is much more heavier than air... Water pressure at various depth is created by the weight of water from above... if fish chase shad up the water column it experience lesser pressure as it goes up,... but if it goes down it will experience heavier pressure on the way down... fish are used to changes in water pressure as they swim up and down the water column, all the time.
Why do I go fishing? To catch a box of fish and/or some quality time under the sun. Thank Heaven I never fail fishing in Texas, catching box fish or plenty of sunburn.
