Hey all, what makes the Yellow Magic different than any other top water? As far as appearance they don't look any different, and "Hand Tied" doesn't make it catch more fish. Just curious about your opinions.

Opinions really do not matter in this case. It just works better than most for some reason. The fish seem to like it better and that is what matters most.

I like the Yellow magic, Iovino Splash it, and the Rico.

I don't know why it's different, but it works, I drink the kool aid, and it's good.

It walks better than most, and sounds different than anything else out there. It catches fish when others wont. I bought one and used it. I now own more and its the only popper I fish.

A sad story ... I'm choking up a little as I write...just last Thursday my gf and I pulled up on this spot when it was just getting light. We made our 1st casts at the same time. She had on a Sammy and I was throwing a Yellow Magic. Immediately after the baits hit the water we both got bit. Unfortunately I had just put on new line but I had neglected to tighten my drag again. It was still very loose from removing the old line. When I set the hook I felt nothing and before I could tighten the drag the fish was deep in the brush. Not only did I have to break off but going in to try to save the bait I spooked the school. So, I lost the bait and screwed up our top water bite. Just a careless bad way to start the day.

Why do you loosen the drag when you remove old line?

If you loosen the drag when removing old line you won't have a backlash while taking the line off. If you just push the button your going to get several back lashes before you pull the old line off. Just a trick I was taught long ago ... works well but you've got to remember to retighten.

To each his own I suppose. You're likely wearing out your drag bearings and gears doing that tho. Just a heads up.

Just push the button and strip the line off! Guess I'm an "under thinker" :-). Oh ya, the original post: Other poppers work. I have caught tons of fish on Pop-R's over many-many years but the YM seems to constantly hold the edge when fished side by side w/another brand. For the price I wish it wasn't true but it is.

Has to be the action. When I only had one, my son would pick my rod up and start throwing it in a tournament and it didn't matter which lake. He would start catching nice fish and I would try to get a Pop-R setup to catch fish and it just wouldn't produce as well if at all. These were in tough conditions. When they are feeding good, I don't think it matters.
