Fall is here, everyday is different with high pressure, then north winds, then south winds, then no wind, fish are as mixed up as me. Somerville Lake is now about 8 inches below normal.

Tuesday I had Al, Eric, and 89 year old Goldie, from Spring, out for the morning. Winds were a little high at 10-15 mph and white caps. The bite was extremely slow. We moved 10 times trying to find a bite. Goldie managed to catch most of the fish with 5 cats and the first Somerville Alligator gar ever caught on my boat, about 2' long. The ended the day with 16 fish to a fish fry get together.

On Wednesday, the winds slowed, but a nice ripple made for an early bite. I had eighty year old Chuck and his "young" wife Gwynn, from Magnolia, out on Lake Somerville. Then the winds died and we had to move deeper to 9' water. Gwynn caught the most fish, they had several nice 3-4# fish by 10:45, then Chuck got a bite
and set the hook. He asked for help because he was afraid he could not hold onto the rod as it doubled over. I grabbed the rod and adjusted the drag as I fought the fish, then I handed the rod to Gwynn to finish the fight. By now, with no wind, I had to wipe the sweat from my eyes so I could see to get the fish in the dip net. The fish barely fit the net and tipped the scale at 22#. Pictures were taken and the fish CPR'd.

They ended with 30 nice cats. All fish caught using corks, in 7-9 foot water, on CJ's Crawdad punch bait.
