BostonBob and I had our semiannual trip to RR with the West Texas family yesterday. What a great fishery RR is. It took a couple of stops to find a good school of whites and the catching was on when they were located. I put the ipilot on spot luck and stayed right there for about 2 hours. We kept a five man limit of whites and caught more than two times that with 6-9 inch fish. Also kept 3 catfish and a couple of drum. The clients kept the drum too. They said they are almost as good table fare as crappie. That is not the first time I have heard that. A school of fish would swim under the boat and we would catch some and then the screen would go blank. I have learned to just stay put when this happens. The school will be back. The fish were in 30-42 feet of water on a long skinny hump. Two ounce slabs were the best lures as you could feel the bite down in 40 foot water better. They would also hit the fly on a regular basis. I even tried the thumping technique for the first time this year and it did not seem to be effective yet. The water was 80 degrees.
Bob is the second person on the left. Howard will soon be 89 years old soon. His 86 year old brother was sitting in the car resting. What a day. Bob is out there this morning with the three that wanted one more day of fishing. I am resting today, but will be on another lake tomorrow. Spotted about 10 other boats on the water and never got within 1/2 mile of them. The good spot was about one mile South of Wolf Island.

Nice job. I've been meaning to get up to RR sometime soon. Funny that you said y'all got them at the 30 foot mark because that's where I found em at on Lake Murray a couple of weeks ago.

I went out on 10/16 afternoon. Wind was bad and white capping. Fished the creeks. Caught only 16 in 2 hours but they were big and fat. Good job on the haul, Don.

A couple of people sent me a PM complaining about the big pile of fish. My customers love fish and they eat every one of them. The catch was legal as far as numbers and size are concerned. I just ignored their messages.

Wait, people complained that fishermen kept fish they caught with a guide? Unbelievable.

It is beneficial to a lake to remove sand bass. Fisherman, keep all sand bass you want, they repopulate well and don't have a long life span. Besides, they are the better tasting fish to eat. Please put the larger hybrids, catfish and bass back to grow even bigger!!!
One other point that I want to make is that the older a fish gets, the more bad toxins that are in the water that are absorbed into the meat of the fish, with the potential to make your health worse in time.

Great job Don. If I was eating fish I would fill the table as full as j could. Your clients paid for it and their license has a portion going towards re stocking the lake.
