But cut carp/buffalo works also. Live or cut "Perch".

You don't. You'll need a cast net. Unfortunately, I can't tell you where to throw it. I struck out with mine at a boat ramp and another location tonight.

If you can't net your own shad go down to Asian or Mexican supermarket and buy some Buffalo. Have them scale it but not wash it. Cut in 1" strips about 3" long. Soak some in Dead Red, some in Kat Juice and keep some plain.

I am really not familiar with that area. I can tell you that I have spent a lot of time on Rayburn and I have never had a lot of luck catching shad or using it as bait. If there is a lot of shad in the lake than use shad...otherwise I would try perch or shrimp.

This^^^ I've been doing this for the past couple months due to not catching any big carp or buffalo. Sad do say, but I've never had the amount of luck with punch bait that I've had with buffalo or carp. You'll get bites according to the size you cut your bait. If you side by side fish with punch and buff/ carp You'll see a difference in the quality and size of cats. Good luck.

If the fish don't bite your not baiting right...

^^^ this,... alternatively, live or cut blue gills or nightcrawlers,... fall and winter blue catfish are NOT TOO picky.

I've never fished lake Tyler, but a friend mine claimed a big blue cat stole one of his poles with a 4" blue gill at the end of the line at lake Tyler,.. so a brand new 9' Daiwa Salmon & Steelhead rod with brand new Shimano Sahara 4000 combo is out there somewhere, lol.

Why do I go fishing? To catch a box of fish and/or some quality time under the sun. Thank Heaven I never fail fishing in Texas, catching box fish or plenty of sunburn.
