I use every color in the book but my favorites are pink head/ pearl white body, Chartreuse head with blue/black/grape body, or all chartreuse. I use braid with a fluro-leader for deep water fishing and straight mono for shallow fishing. The braid makes a huge difference when your fishing deep water.

I run a double jig, 1/8th oz. on top and 1/4 oz. jig on bottom. My go-to color jigs are Sour Grape and Texas Toast (by Crazy Angler), Red/Clear and Blue/Clear and Purple/Clear (by Mid South Tackle), and Electric Chicken and Monkey Milk and Cajun Cricket (by Bobby Garland). I use others but these are my favorites and the ones I catch the most with. I use pink, black, white, and chartreuse jig heads. The crappie really seem to like pink jig heads and some some shade of red or purple jigs.

These are our favorite jigs. They are all 1/8 oz with #2 sickle hooks. We use BoneHead braid tied directly to the jig without a leader.

Here is a great rig for crappie, I tried it and it works fantastic, it also has the best advantage of not having to rig from scratch everytime you lose your rig do to snags. I normally catch very few crappie for the whole year. I use this a couple of weeks ago and I caught 6 nice ones. Which for me is awesome. Usually I might catch one a month. Hope this helps someone who likes to crappie fish without the hassle. I have made over 150 rigs so far as for me this is the way I am going to go for now. I am experimenting with different jigs on the bottom, like Slab Daddy's, they seem to like the pink/chartreuse/pink. I haven't tried it yet but I am going to try using the Thump Buddys (little frogs). They work pretty good by themselves. Here is the u tube link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13056qp-e7YEnjoy

Went several time last year, caught most of them at the $5 dock. Took my boat a couple of times, but did not catch any crappie. Have not been back since I put my Humminbird 999 on my boat. Will have to consider a trip over there soon. Nice Area.

Is 16 oz kind of a standard weight. Well, I've never use a 16 oz jig but would probable be ok for a 30 lb crappie. Seriously, I like 1/16 oz and 1/8 oz best but there are guys that are far more knowledgeable than me, here.

Papamark, I agree with you by about two thirds as I would add the pearl ice and it comes from the same place. But for tight lining it has been better for me.

I also use a unpainted head @ 1/8 oz, but a red hook!
Probing brush for crappie is my game!
