I've been looking on the web at the different options of up grading my electronics (sonar) and have been totally mind twisted. They range from $099.00 to $2599.00 and to eternity. So if you purchase something with SI or DI does the package include everything or as I assume after minimum shopping you have to buy an additional box for SI and DI increasing the listed price. The question is when you buy a unit will it come with everything its capable of doing or do you have to ask for that package. Any one had any experiences buying online or box stores and not getting what you expected?

Humminbird Side Imaging units can do all the functions right out of the box.

The Garmin SV units I think come with an all-in-one transducer.

Other brands have the extra charge "package" to have full capability.

MOST LOWRANCE UNITS HAVE EVERYTHING YOU NEED. JUST BE SURE YOU ASK FOR THE RIGHT PACKAGE.

I just put two new hummingbirds on my new boat and they both came complete in the package. I put a 798 si in the console and a helix 7 si on the front. The only thing extra I had to get was the flush mount kit for the console.

If you're looking for a "plug and play", go with Humminbird. All you do is install the transducer (correctly!!), install the mounting bracket, hook up the electrical, and turn it on. SI, DI, GPS, 2D, and depending upon which model you buy, a host of other things that will blow your mind. The deal that David at Shut-Up-And-Fish has on the 1199 model is the best deal you will ever get on a new graph...period.

So how is this any different than with any other finder. All of them are plug and play, IE, they all have to have 1 or 2 transducers, the mounting bracket, the electrical and turn it on......

The humminbird 1199 for $1300.00 is a bargain.

I paid much more for mine, but I'm very satisfied with the performance of the unit.

Lowrance had LSS-1/-2 prior to Gen 2 Touch. With Gen 2 Touch they incorporated that feature into the head unit. The LSS was an extra expense. Now that it's incorporated, the picture is not as good...unless you buy a LSS unit and hook it up. And regardless of Generation, you have to have two transducers on the Lowrance to have SI/DI (extra expense) together with the other screens. Humminbird has all that incorporated into their unit (especially the Onix series), and only one transducer, with a clearer picture.

I'm no expert on this stuff, but I am someone that has had both brands top-end units. And as the commercial goes....Humminbird, clearly, simply, better

You are correct in the older generation models. It is all still plug and play though. Nobody was soldering wires or anything like that.

I was assuming that he was going to buy the latest greatest of whatever brand he chose. It that is the case then he will have to plug in one extra transducer on a Lowrance. Almost as easy as plugging in your battery charger.......

Opinions on screen or picture clarity, etc.... are like butts, everyone has one and most people think theirs is the best......

I don't care what he buys, both Lowrance and Hummingbird are top notch brands and it appears that Garmin is getting a following too. I just wanted to make sure the OP understood that all of the units available are plug and play and that picture quality is a subjective opinion.

And a few folks are thinking the Bird 999 and 1199 are "obsolete" since Onix is available. There will always be new advances in units. Great thing is ---- the crappie don't know anything is "obsolete".

I couldnt pass up the deal that David has on the 1199. I dont mind buying......in fact I prefer to buy a unit that has been out for a while because most of the bugs have been worked out of them. After dealing with shutupandfish I can tell you David is a good guy to work with.
