Glen and I had a good time on Lavon this weekend, although the wind came up pretty strong. We couldn't fish where we wanted as it got too windy. We were both 2-poling (4 different jigs) and the first five fish came on a slab bug in Black Emerald Shiner (BES) on a 1/8 ounce head. They were hammering that Shad pattern. I use a bigger jig head because I am inpatient! lol But I (crappie) like the smaller profile bait.

Lavon is full of baitfish. They are so thick, it even makes it hard to distinguish brush piles sometimes. They will almost black out your screen. Time to stock some stripers! :-) We weeded through a bunch of dinks and 9 inch fish for about a dozen keepers. Mostly on submerged timber 10-12' but also some shallower and some deeper. No exact pattern since bait is everywhere! grin

Good times!

Link below is Glen's video on 2 poling with some tips and tricks.
It is just what is sounds like, but using 2 poles vertical jigging and running the trolling motor can be tricky, especially over BPs. A good time to try it is Lake O' Pines here in the next few months. Open water around the creek channels makes it more practical... and fun!

Thanks!

As Todd mentioned, several of us now have Go Pros and are learning to use them. That is Glen's first video... took 80+ minutes to upload. lol
I thought he did a pretty good job. You mentioned 'keep 'em coming... We will keep making 'how-to' videos to share stuff as we figure out how to edit and upload...And remember to bring the GoPros along! smirk Also, If the fish cooperate! cool

Hopefully, we will get some good winter action on Pines with screen shots and techniques.

Good fishing!

Yeah, I need some more ideas on how to's that we should make. I could do something on fishing brushpile vs. underwater timber. Or jigs vs minnows or jigs with minnows. What else?

A lot of those bites these days are short fish, really short fish, like 3-6" long. It takes a REAL expert to land one! This is Glen below and he is the crappie Zen master. cheers
the jig is bigger than the crappie!!

Seriously, Its not just you. There was an epic spawn this year due to the floods. Our lake was even shut down this year so... unmolested spawn + tons of grass/brush/shurbs from the lake being low for years = EPIC spawn. Plus, there was so much flooding downstream, COE and others left the lakes high on purpose for months. REALLY, really good spawn. Normally, the floods come, fish spawn, lakes draw down and they don't have time to hatch/grow. There are millions of bass/bream/shad/white bass/yellow bass/crappie.

You can try:

Sizing down your jig head and bait - 1/16th or smaller jig head and maybe a slab bug or frog
try braid - more sensitivity
Some use a leader of mono or fluro - I tried it, but I don't mess with it
try sickle hooks - very freakin' sharp
I use a carbon fiber rod with a graphite & fiberglass tip - more sensitivity = its light weight and strong. You may not want to go this route, but just more ideas for ya

Good luck out there!
I hope you start landing them. At least you can see what they are. cool
