It's time for some multi species fishin,... haven't figured out them blue yet, but them young bass that hang around shallow water structures must be getting fat from those shallow water shad and minnows that blues are not eating...

Side note, big blues should be staging to either come shallow or going up the tributaries about this time of the season.

Why do I go fishing? To catch a box of fish and/or some quality time under the sun. Thank Heaven I never fail fishing in Texas, catching box fish or plenty of sunburn.

Look for the blues to start moving more over the next few weeks. Shallow will be good, but mid-depths...12-24ft will be better. thumb

So shad stay shallow even after sunset in October ... warm weather or are they confused they are in river? But blue cats stay deep... fall is the season fish begin to fatten themselves, so they become active and start to move around to hunt and foraging for food... water had cool down significantly...
... in past I would have a hard time finding shad in October but had better luck catching big fish,... it's the other way around so far...

Side note, the urge to reproduce will force big fish to chase shad, they will be actively feeding.

dont be giving all the tricks away lol

This is the case here on Texoma. Lots of fish being caught in the 30-60 ft range, but the 15-25ft has became the ticket for better quality fish over this past week with ramdomly good days happening in shallow water but with no pattern to lock in on. Best way to find the fish is to get out there and put some time in.

As far as bait goes Im catching Threadfins deep and the gizzards shallow for the most part. Past couple days the bigger gizzards have showed up.

BrianTx01, you got skunked lately? Lol I don't fish from the boat so it's kind hard for me to relate to your experiences, but yeah banking has been tough, but even from the bank I wouldn't beach it about October heat because fact is there are people catching some decent size fish. Lol

Gizzard shad ball up in less than a fow at night around any flat concrete slab at TWok,... threadfin in 2 to 3 fow,... in unbelievable number.

A buddy and I spent quite a bit of time on the water this past weekend. Friday we fished from his dock and had a pretty slow evening. Only 2 fish, one of them being a 10 pounder. The way it hit I though I had a larger fish, but I'll take it. Saturday we spent most of the day chasing green carp (LMB) with little success. Then we tried to catch the sandbass schooling up, and caught a couple nice hybrids and sandbass but nothing special. We got to a shallow point right before dark and caught some shad. We anchored up on a shallow humo and had baits ranging from 2-12 ft in depth. The bite was pretty slow but the few fish we did catch ranged from about 8-15 pounds.
All in all, not a terrible weekend.

Thanks,
Olen

I caught this skinny 25# blue tonight. At 38" it should be fatter than this. One more 10# for the box. Overall it was pretty slow and way to darn hot. At this time of year I expect to be able to fish during the days and pull about 5 or 6 fish that size. I tried to fish earlier today but it was too darn hot.

A 25# and 10# on a "hot" night doesn't sound too terribly bad,... btw if you stayed a little longer last night you prolly need a jacket, temp dip to low 50s in am hours... so much for October heat lol.

Yes sir. One of my buddies is going to be back from the marines in a couple days and I am going to try and get him on some pigs!

Thanks,

You and your friends will do well... imho, fall and spring time are best two seasons for fishing with friends or family, and summer and winter are for hardcore fishermen or women. My favorite is Fall, it's a slower pace fishing and less crowded but you tend to catch quality fish...

Good luck and have fun fish
