Has anyone caught any crappie on lake Ray Roberts that look like a white crappie, but have a very black stripe on top from the tip of the top lip to the tail? I don't have a picture, but I have caught 2-3 of them. I will take a picture of the next one.

Yes, I had several times. It's like a Mohawk. Quite interesting.

Katchin krappie...doin surgeries(filleting)...and givin hott grease baths until krunchy and golden brown is what it's all about!!!

We call them racing stripe crappie. They are getting to be pretty common.

Yep, they are black crappie with a genetic trait for the stripe. Google Mohawk Crappie and there is an article written about Crappie that discusses them by a TPWD Biologist from Jasper.... Its a good read! And welcome to TFF

Catch them all the time. I like the goat-tee and fu man chu stripes under the bottom lip

Y'all are all wrong. The Crappie with the black stripe are ones Earnest Paty caught but we're too small. He keeps a black sharpie in the boat and marks them so everyone knows they're his. Ain't that right Ernest?

I believe Ernest also gave them the name 'mohawk'. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
